I recently started taking a Mixed Media Collage class with the fabulous Sheri Howe ( www.sherihowe.com ). It has been so much fun! This week we learned about photo transfers and making collaged papers with wallpaper paste. I had never done either and I am thoroughly enjoying both.
The photo transfers, as shown above, are transparent. Whatever is put behind them shows through. The applications are endless with collage!
The process is simple, brushing on gel medium over a xerox photo, allowing to dry, bathing in water, and gently rubbing off the paper. You are left with a plastic image similar to a window cling. There is a tutorial here: http://www.instructables.com/id/Image-Transfers-with-Acrylic-Gel-Medium/
We also made paper, a base for our future collages, by simply layering scraps of paper with wallpaper paste. I even added some gold tissue paper just for fun.
Oh, the possibilities!
